As architecture industry is undergoing profound reflection and transformation as it settles in the tides of time. The once-unrestrained growth of urban structures has gradually quieted, while mountains and seas—echoes of ideals of dwelling—are being sketched anew. Today, project choices are no longer driven solely by commercial logic. More and more architects are stepping into nature, engaging with local contexts, and seeking alternative resonances for design within the interstices of cultural and travel-oriented spaces.
Faced with shifting environments and challenges, diverse paths and values continue to emerge—some measure the boundaries of design under the banner of " mountains and seas," some uphold ideals through the ethos of small, independent studios, while others explore possibilities for reinvention within the frameworks of large design institutions.
We cannot help but wonder: How can architects reclaim the purity of creation? And how can they take the vast earth and sky as their canvas to truly root their ideals in reality? It is more of a journey toward the inner light. With "mountains and seas as their scroll," they collectively rewrite the coordinates of creativity, responsibility, and the pursuit of a meaningful life.
當建筑在時代的浪潮中沉淀，行業也在經歷一場深層的思考與轉向。曾經野蠻生長的樓宇漸次止息，而山與海，作為傳統人居理想的回響，再次被提筆描摹。而今，項目的選擇不再只是商業邏輯的推演，越來越多的建筑師開始走入自然、走向在地，在文旅的縫隙中探尋設計的另一種回聲。
面對環境的變化與行業的挑戰，差異化的路徑與價值仍在不斷生長──有人以“山海”為名重新丈量設計的邊界，有人以小微事務所的姿態堅持理想，也有人在大型設計院的體系中尋找轉向與重構的可能。
我們不禁試問：建筑師如何重拾創造的純粹？又如何以遼闊的天地為畫卷，讓理想真正落地生根？奔赴山海，亦是奔赴內心不曾熄滅的那束光。他們以“山海為卷”，共同執筆，重新校準那份關于創造、責任與美好生活的理想坐標。
On July 11th 米Salon titled "Journey to Mountains and Seas– Redrawing Architects' Ideal Coordinates," was held at Roca Shanghai Gallery. The event invited 3 leading architects—Nan Xiang, Ziyu Zhuang, and Yuan Xie—as guest speakers. Drawing from their hands-on experience and reflections, they shared insights on how architects can leverage their expertise to address real-world demands in cultural and tourism projects amid today’s challenging industry climate, while also redefining their professional trajectories.
