Located in Deqing, Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, Moganshan is part of the Tianmu Mountain range. Since late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period, the area has gradually developed a diverse collection of villas built by people from various countries including Britain, the United States, France, Germany, Russia, the Netherlands, and China itself, earning the reputation of “World Architecture Museum.” More than 250 villas remain today, some become protected heritage sites, while others have been renovated into boutique hotels and “yang jiale” (hill station) guesthouses. With its distinctive natural environment and strategic location at the core of Shanghai–Nanjing–Hangzhou triangle, Moganshan has evolved from a summer retreat and birthplace of China’s homestay culture into a lifestyle destination that merges the essence of rural living with an urban sensibility.
莫干山位于浙江湖州德清縣境內,屬于天目山余脈。從清末民初開始,莫干山逐漸形成風格多樣的別墅群,建造者涉及英美法德俄荷中諸多國家,被譽為“世界建筑博物館”,如今尚存的二百五十余座別墅中,有的成為重點文物保護對象,有的改造成“洋家樂”或酒店。獨特的自然環境和地處滬、寧、杭三角核心區域的地理位置,讓莫干山從避暑勝地、民宿文化發源地發展成融鄉村與城市感于一身的生活體驗目的地。

living room | 會客廳
At 380 East Huangfu Road, Mogan Yu Street, the idea of “home” sets inside the 70 square meters space. Here, the scale of an ordinary two-bedroom apartment becomes the framework for imagining how people might live and gather. Faced with the raw condition of 3.9-meter-high commercial unit, the design aspires to soften the space: to bring warmth into a setting built for commerce, and to embrace the presence of daily life. Moments of wandering, pausing, resting, get-together and communicating are gently woven into the spatial experience, shaping a subtle yet tangible homelike vision.
在莫干庾街黃郛東路380號一層,“家”的構想被放置進這個70平方米的空間里,對應一般住宅兩室一廳的布局和居住尺度,同時面對3.9米層高的純商業空間條件,于是希望通過設計創造在商業空間里的居住體驗,融入貼近身體尺度的空間感受和包括觀賞、停留、聚會、休憩、交流等在內的日常功能,滿足抽象意義上對家的想象。
Inspired by this vision, the space unfolds in two chapters as “Daytime” and “Nighttime.” Echoing the two bedrooms and living room of a home, the contrast between “white” and “black” cues atmosphere transition. Two worlds coexist here, one for galleries, the other for gathering, creating a place where ideas and people connect.
依照構想,整個空間被劃分為“白天”和“夜晚”兩部分,分別對應兩室一廳中的“兩室”和“一廳”,采用白色和黑色色調,明確提示了兩個部分的不同體驗,并使它們各自承擔展廳展覽和活動沙龍的功能。

The arrangement of light is a crucial step beyond the spatial division. Although the site is a transparent glass "box" open on all sides, the design begins by conceptually restoring it to an enclosed state. A residential scale of 2.7 meters in height is established, along with a 1.2-meter free light zone between the top of the partition walls and the ceiling. In the "daytime" part that requires ample light, natural light is allowed to enter easily through the glass curtain walls, enabling the space to function normally during the day without artificial lighting. Simultaneously, a portion of the natural light flows into the "nighttime" spaces through this open zone at the top, creating a living room experience that aligns with daily rhythms. Most of the original windows in the "nighttime" spaces are sealed, while an array of lighting fixtures installed on the ceiling provides illumination at night. Intelligent controls enable scene switching to meet the needs for varying atmospheres for different scenarios, such as exhibition, entertaining, and salons.
對光線進行安排是除了空間切分動作之外的重要步驟。雖然既有場地是一個四面通透的透明玻璃“盒子”,而設計則從將它還原到封閉狀態開始。在高度上設定2.7米高的居住尺度,以及隔墻到頂部之間1.2米的自由光線地帶。在需要充足光線的“白天”空間里安排自然光透過玻璃幕墻無遮擋進入,使空間在白天時無燈光照明的介入也可以正常使用,同時一部分自然光經過頂部1.2米的開敞地帶流入“夜晚”空間,營造符合日常感的客廳體驗。“夜晚”空間的原有窗面中大部分做了封閉處理,在頂面陣列排布的燈具提供夜晚時照明,智能控制切換場景,滿足空間對展示、接待、小型聚會、沙龍等不同場景下氛圍變化的需求。

Sleeping with Animals, MONOARCHI | 與動物同眠”,MONOARCHI 度向建筑
The "daytime" space is divided into two galleries, adopting a flexible gallery layout to facilitate a series of themes or art and installation shows curated in collaboration with brands and architects. This area is relatively more fluid that displays could be updated regularly. For the opening of Roca × 米(mi) salon Space, ATAH and MONOARCHI were invited to create works especially for the space. The former condenses the spatial syntax of the firm's West Bund project into a miniature stage as a connector between design outcomes and reinterpretation; the latter transforms several small houses originally built for a wildlife park into tree hollow–like spaces, shaping a human perspective by approximating animals’ view.
“白天”空間分為兩個展廳,采取靈活布展的方式,為品牌與建筑師的聯動策劃一系列主題展覽或藝術及裝置展覽,相對更具流動性,將定期進行更換和調整。Roca × 米salon Space 開幕后的首場裝置展邀請了ATAH 介景建筑事務所和MONOARCHI 度向建筑,分別以“花間三角頌”和“與動物同眠”為主題進行創作,前者濃縮了事務所西岸項目空間句式的迷你舞臺,是一個設計成果與再創作的連接器;后者嘗試將項目中為某地野生動物園建造的幾個小房子變成樹洞,以貼近動物的方式塑造人類視角。

The "nighttime" part is relatively fixed, much like the living room of a "home." It welcomes everyone as both a casual spot for friends to gather, chat, and enjoy tea. It’s also a lovely venue for events such as salons, discussions, and small lectures accommodating 10 to 30 people. It offers a set of sofa and some lightweight, flexible chairs so that the number of seats might be adjusted according to functional needs. The display area includes video about Roca Gallery's seven global gallery spaces, past event posters of 米(mi) salon, and Roca product showcases and introductions. Three TV screens are arranged side by side for daily scrolling.
“夜晚”的活動空間相對固定,就像“家”的會客廳一樣,以邀請和接待的姿態面對所有人,既可以成為三五朋友相約聊天喝茶的場所,也可以承辦10人至30人左右的沙龍、討論會、小型講座等活動,中心布置了一組沙發并配備靈活輕量的座椅,通過座位的增減滿足具體功能內容。展示區域包括關于Roca Gallery全球七個展廳的影像資料,米salon往期海報,Roca產品展示及介紹等,三塊電視屏幕以并置方式滾動播放空間相關內容。

The design approach implemented in the project follows an inside-out logic. The prototype of the transparent box is reconfigured especially the light being "sculpted" by the division into "daytime" and "nighttime" zones. Meanwhile, the open section between the 2.7-meter height and the 3.9-meter ceiling subtly emphasizes the continuity of time. The entrance is positioned on the southwest side of the site, allowing ample natural light to flow into the two galleries located there. Under the interplay of light and shadow, the artworks offer visitors quite rich sensory experience. The large door on the north side of the event space remains closed under normal circumstances to keep tranquil and stable atmosphere which is distinctive from the "daytime" zone. During events, this door can be opened as an independent entrance and exit. Within the 2.7-meter-high space, people can orient themselves toward different directions to experience varying environments: facing south offers a view of the building's inner courtyard, west looks onto the garden path, and north opens toward a small plaza between the building and the city street. The shifting paths within the space thus create diversified experiential sequences.
在Roca × 米salon Space 實踐的是由內而外的設計路徑,將透明盒子原型進行重新設置,用“白天”和“夜晚”的部分對光線進行裁剪,同時2.7米高至3.9米頂部之間的開敞部分提示了時間的連貫。入口設定在場地西南側,充足自然光線進入西南方位上的兩間展廳,藝術展品在光影作用下給參觀者帶來豐富感受?;顒涌臻g北面大門平時關閉,以寧靜、穩定的氣氛區別于“白天”,舉辦活動時大門可打開作為獨立出入口。在2.7米高的空間里人們可以朝向不同地點體驗差異化的環境,比如朝南能看到整棟建筑的內院,朝西是園區小路,朝北則面向建筑與城市街道之間的小廣場,在空間里的路線轉換帶來不同體驗。

On November 16th, 2025, 米(mi) salon was successfully hold after the project establishment. Bringing the salon out of Shanghai to Moganshan was a shared aspiration among the five organizers which are atelier mearc, ATAH, Roca Gallery, MONOARCHI, and ARCHIPELAGO. The ongoing progress of the Moganshan Yu Village renovation provided the opportunity to realize the vision. This space is set to become a hub connecting architects with both rural and urban contexts, fostering the idea exchanges, new technologies communications, and reflections on tradition.
2025年11月16日,在Roca × 米salon Space 的“夜晚”會客廳舉辦了空間落成后第一場米salon活動。讓米salon走出上海,來到莫干山,是包括米凹工作室、ATAH介景建筑事務所、Roca Gallery、MONOARCHI度向建筑、群島ARCHI-PELAGO在內的五位主辦方共同的愿望,莫干山庾村更新建造項目的持續推進成為愿望最終得以實現的契機。這里將成為鏈接建筑師與鄉村、城市的所在,容納思想的碰撞、新技術的探討,以及對傳統的回望。
